She remembers waking up, slung over the side of the bathtub with her nose inches from the bathroom rug thinking, "Wow! This looks a lot like my bathroom rug. Why am I waking up here?" Slowly the sounds around her became louder until she realized shower water was pounding on her back.
She hit her head with a tremendous force on the toilet and suffered a severe concussion.
Doctor's orders were for her to spend a week in bed with ABSOLUTELY NO BRAIN STIMULUS!
This meant no talking, no friends, no phone, no music, no ipod, no light, no reading, no homework, no audio books, no movies.....NOTHING!
For a girl who THRIVES on constant stimulus, this has been the ultimate torture.
"This is worse than a concentration camp!" she was heard to exclaim.
After a week with no improvement, we took a field trip to the hospital to have a CT scan.
Sort of like a Disneyland ride, but more costly.
The scan revealed NO crack in the skull, excessive bulge or bleeding. It looked normal.
So Sheralyn will simply have to live with the headaches, nausea, and constant ringing in her ears for a few more weeks until her body can naturally recover.
Sheralyn attended school today and survived fairly well, except for an hour during sewing. She was feeling too shaky to make it to the nurses' office, so Mrs Davidson made a soft bed for her with some folded fleece and Sheralyn napped during class.
Throughout this ordeal, Sheralyn has been a well-natured patient. She is able to laugh at herself and others when they imitate her. (You should see Bryce imitate her fall... funny enough to make your gut ache!)
Amazingly, even with an injured brain, Sheralyn still talks a hundred miles an hour and our brains have a hard time keeping up with her injured brain!
Oh man. Poor Sheralyn. I have a sympathy headache just reading this post. :(
ReplyDeleteWe need to get Sheralyn and Jeffery Petersen together for a date, they can both wear safety helmets and share MRI stories.
Get better Shun...we love ya!
I was totally concerned until I saw the first picture posted and saw what Sheralyn was wearing, then I couldn't help but laugh (sorry)! I am so grateful she had an "OFF DUTY" mask to wear!!! That makes everything better!!
ReplyDeleteLove you Sheralyn!!!!
