Homeschool -- Grandpa Clark Style!

Living close to Grandpa Clark allows us to tap into his expertise for some of our homeschool topics. He recently taught a fabulous Geology class for our homeschool group.

Janelle and Jacob learning about the structure of molecules and crystals.
Madi and Jaden learn about Moh's scale of hardness with actual scratch tests on several samples of rock.

This Geology lessons was followed by a class about WWI trench warfare. Lissa King taught the kids about the rules and dangers of trench warfare.

Although we transformed the house into a WWI battle scene, the boys were disappointed with their newspaper-wad bombs and granades. Lucky for them, Grandpa Clark had a surprise activity planned!

He dressed the kids in real army uniforms and gas masks, then ordered them to charge the hill!

Unbeknownst to the young soldiers, Grandpa had built some fortifications from which he and Nick fired shrapnel-producing bottle rockets! The lawn was transformed into a smoky battlefield with "bullets" exploding all around the soldiers.

Jacob and Jaden, hungry for some REAL action, thought it was the
best homeschool day EVER!

(The camera doesn't show it, but "bullets" are literally exploding all around these boys!)

  1. We were just talking about how Grampa Clark was the best teacher ever at Phoenix High and that's it's really too bad he's not teaching anymore. He's a natural! I'm glad Shumway Home School still uses his unrivaled and UNORTHODOX teaching skills! Your kids will always have the best Grampa Clark memories!! We all need a Grampa Clark!
