It's Peanut Nativity Time Again!

Every family has their favorite holiday traditions.  For the Shumways, it just isn't Christmas without making peanut nativities.  So without further ado, here's our...

Unveiling of the 2009 Models:

Here's a closer view of Madi's creation:

And Janelle's:

And here's our cousin Chloe's:

Here's Tanner working on his:

And our Cousin Mitchell, and Scott, and Sheralyn:

Now, notice Sheralyn in the picture above.  This is where things started to go wrong.

She wasn't feeling very good and still recovering from being a little sick.  And, since this was the, uh, probably the12th time she's been forced into making a peanut nativity, this was about all the excitement she could muster for the event.  Eventually she headed off to bed early.  Poor girl.  If she only knew that things were about to take a turn to the bizarre, she might have stayed up to watch.

This is when things got a little weird.  We've been making these homemade peanut creches for so long that everyone felt like freshening things up in their own unique ways.

So when Janelle asked her dad to put some hair on her "Mary"  this is what he did:

Then Mitchell decided to take his nativity and give it a new twist with this outer space version:

I think the green peanuts below are the Three Wise Aliens bearing gifts:

Are they bringing Gold, Frankincense, and Foam Circles??

Then Aunt Stacy saw a bunch of fake little apples and decided to make a peanut project featuring a different Biblical story:

Notice "Adam" not paying attention in the background. Also notice the heart with A+E drawn on her FABULOUS peanut shell apple tree!

Then Bryce did his on a Tiger Woods theme.  This had us a little confused. Connor helped him by making the gator.

Notice he even took the time to give Tiger a caddy:

But we didn't want to admit we noticed nor did we ask him to explain the peanut girl in the bikini....

And last, the evening would not be complete with out the traditional hot-glued beard.  Each year Scott puts together a cotton ball beard and hot glues it to his face.  As he does this, he tears up from the pain while the rest of us laugh hysterically at him.

But this year Bryce offered to do the honors.  He mistakenly thought that if he glued the cotton balls to the OUTSIDE of a plastic see-through box and put his face on the INSIDE of it, that it would insulate him from the burn.  As you can see, it didn't work:

We have to admit that we really missed Danielle and Cheyenne who always offer fantastically traditional and euphorically detailed nativities that seem a little more suitable for bringing in the true spirit of Christmas.

Maybe next year...
